Gail Chalew is the immediate past Chair of the New Orleans Advisory Council at Avodah, and remains on the Council today.
Gail Naron Chalew is an editor specializing in academic books and articles, as well as a committed volunteer working toward the betterment of the New Orleans Jewish community. A former editor of the New Orleans Jewish News, she also wrote extensively on the New Orleans Jewish community’s experiences during and after Katrina for the national press.
Gail is the President of the NCJW Chapter in New Orleans. The organization means so much to her because of its commitment to the well-being of women and children and its stance on human rights. Gail is also the founding chair of LimmudFest New Orleans, and guided its growth through its first seven conferences. Gail, husband Stuart, and four children—Talia, Naomi, Hannah, and Ari— moved from up north to make New Orleans their home twenty-five years ago and have never regretted that decision. New Orleans has provided the warm and funky environment in which their entire family could thrive and grow; three of their four grown children now make New Orleans their home. Gail has five amazing grandchildren.
