PROJECT MANAGER CONSULTANT

LOCATION: New York, NY

 

JOB OVERVIEW:

Avodah seeks a consultant to serve as project manager for a multi-part New York-based lecture series
that we are spearheading. This project will include but not be limited to:

● Developing a realistic timeline for the project and managing its budget
● Managing all aspects of logistics related to the event space, refreshments, etc.
● Hiring and working with a videographer to ensure a high-quality video recording of the lectures,
including overseeing post-production editing and delivery of video
● Working with lecturers around logistics, travel, honorarium, etc. (The Rabbi-in-Residence will
oversee securing lecturers and working with them on the substance of their talks.)
● Working with our Communications Director to manage communications, invitations, etc. for the
event
● Overseeing promotion of video resource to schools, synagogues, Hillels, etc.
● Liaising with our partner organization(s) as needed
● Any other tasks related to the development and execution of this project.
Qualifications:
● Must have event planning experience
● Detail-oriented and ability to multi-task
● Previous experience working with video production and/or technology is preferred
● A candidate with interest in the intersection of Judaism and social justice is preferred
● Must be based in New York City area
We anticipate that this project will require an average of 2 days per week over a 6-month period. We
expect to pay $12,000-$15,000 for this project.
Timeline: Late July anticipated start, with a goal of hosting the series in the fall and delivering finished
video by early 2018.

About Avodah:


Avodah is dedicated to developing and engaging a network of Jewish leaders fighting to end domestic
poverty. Founded in New York City in 1998, our work has four key components.


● The Jewish Service Corps places young Jewish adults, 21-26 years of age, in a year of full-time
service at anti-poverty organizations in Chicago, New York, New Orleans, and Washington, DC.
During the year, corps members live together as a community and participate in weekly
educational programs to deepen their understanding of domestic poverty and explore their work
through the lens of Jewish tradition, regularly facilitated by local experts, educators, and
community leaders.


● Justice Fellowship: Launched in New York City in 2014 and expanded to Chicago in 2016, this
program brings together cohorts of early-career anti-poverty professionals for nine months of
intensive learning, mentorship, and community-building. We plan to expand this program to other
cities in the future.


● Alumni Network: With nearly 850 members across the country, we support Avodah alumni
through ongoing programming, engagement, and advanced skill-building. Our network is a
tremendous repository of knowledge on our nation’s most pressing social and economic issues
and Jewish responses to them.


● Community Engagement: Avodah develops a range of programs, partnerships, and strategies
to engage the wider Jewish community in the work of fighting domestic poverty. This includes
speaking at conferences, running workshops and classes, convening transformative gatherings,
and creating new opportunities for the Jewish community to deepen its understanding of the root
causes and effects of poverty and pursuit of justice.
