Raquel Schuster

Raquel Schuster serves on Avodah’s Board of Directors.

Raquel Schuster is a native of Colombia, and since 1985 a citizen of the United States. She received her BA from Rutgers University, an MA in Comparative Literature from Brandeis University, and an EdM from Harvard University. After graduate school, she served as the Assistant Director of Latin American Affairs at the Anti-Defamation League in New York City. In 1984, she moved to Baltimore, where she worked at the Baltimore Jewish Council, first running a local FEMA board for homelessness and hunger and eventually adding Soviet Jewry advocacy to her portfolio. Following her stint with the BJC and two years living in Israel, she became an adjunct professor at the University of Maryland Baltimore County and later at Goucher College, teaching Romance Languages and writing composition. After retiring, she moved to Austin, Texas, where she lives with her husband. She has three children, two stepchildren and seven grandchildren.
