Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, John Wasserman was diagnosed with a speech impediment that deterred him from speaking openly in public for the majority of his life. His stutter is part of the reason why he fights every day to give a voice to people who don’t have a voice. As a student Leader at Brooklyn College, Wasserman fought for racial equality, voting rights, affordable higher education, and clean energy resources with NYPIRG. He then went on to become the founding President of the Brooklyn College Democrats where he helped elect political candidates to the local, state and federal levels of government. Today, he serves as the Brooklyn Young Democrats EVP, Parliamentarian for the Young Democrats of America Jewish Caucus, and Tenant Support Specialist for the City of New York where he works to protect low income tenants from unscrupulous landlords.
