Avodah develops and engages a network of Jewish leaders working within the Jewish community and beyond to promote social justice and fight the causes and effects of domestic poverty. We achieve this through our many programmatic offerings including the Jewish Service Corps, the Avodah Justice Fellowship, our alumni network and our community education and engagement work.
Avodah is seeking a Program Director to oversee and implement our Jewish Service Corps in New York City, including the development of a JOC (Jews of Color) majority or JOC only Bayit (house) in 2021*. The Program Director is responsible for all aspects of the local Service Corps cohort, including the educational workshops, job-related placement and assistance, housing support, community building and logistics. This is an excellent position for someone who excels in roles that include especially varied responsibilities and variable flow of work. The ideal Program Director is a skilled educator and program facilitator who is passionate about building strong communities who can support each other in their work for social justice, Jewish identity development, personal growth, and the meaningful intersections between those. They have the cultural competence and skills to mentor and support BIPOC participants. They are able to comfortably hold a range of logistical, emotional and educational responsibilities in order to ensure that the overall program runs smoothly and successfully. As the work will include virtual programming, the ideal candidate will have experience and comfort with virtual facilitation and program implementation.
The NYC Program Director is an integral member of the NYC Avodah local team. They will work as part of a dynamic team with both the NYC Community Director who oversees local development and community engagement in the NYC region, and with the broader service corps team of program directors. The NYC Program Director will also work with the national program associate and other national program staff to support the NYC service corps members. The NYC Program Director reports to the National Service Corps Director (located in New Orleans).
* Avodah plans to open a JOC majority or JOC only bayit in NYC in the 2021-2022 program year. The NYC program director will be the lead program staff for the NYC site.
