Specific Bequest

“I give to Avodah: The Jewish Service Corps, Federal Tax ID#: 13-3914342, [the sum of ______ Dollars ($___)] for its general charitable purposes.”

Residuary Bequest Residue

Residuary Bequest Residue is the term used to describe the portion of an estate that remains after all debts, expenses, and specific bequests to others have been fulfilled.

“I give to Avodah: The Jewish Service Corps, Federal Tax ID # 13-3914342, ____% of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate for its general charitable purposes.”

Retirement Accounts or Life Insurance

Naming Avodah as a beneficiary is a simple and powerful way to support the life-changing work of our organization without updating your will. Beneficiary designation gifts pass directly to Avodah without going through the probate process and go right to work to help us develop lifelong Jewish justice leaders.

Individuals who inherit retirement plan assets are usually required to pay income tax on them, so they’re often considered among the best assets to leave to charity.

How to name Avodah as a beneficiary

  • Contact your plan administrator or financial institution for a change of beneficiary form.
  • On the beneficiary form, decide what percentage, up to 100%, you would like Avodah to receive. Please list us as:
    • Legal name: Avodah: The Jewish Service Corps
    • Address: 195 Montague Street, Floor 14, Brooklyn, NY, 11201-3631
    • Federal tax ID#: 13-3914342

Real Estate

If you own property that you would like to donate to Avodah through your will, the following language, which you should share with your attorney, can be used:

“I hereby gift and bequeath to Avodah, Federal Tax ID #13-3914342, all of that certain piece, parcel, or lot of land owned by me and situated in the town of ____ and more particularly described as follows: [full legal description of property]”

Bank and investment accounts & commercial annuities

You can leave a legacy by naming Avodah as a Transfer-on-Death (TOD) or Payable-on-Death (POD) beneficiary on a bank or investment account, or a commercial annuity. Check with your financial institution to see if this option is available to you.
