Understanding, Supporting, and Empowering Gen Z

Understanding, Supporting, and Empowering Gen Z

Training for Nonprofit Organizations, Jewish Communal Institutions, and Leadership Teams

Facilitator leads a group program on oppression

Gen Z is engaging in Jewish communal life with new expectations around leadership, belonging, and impact. For many families and organizations, this presents both opportunity and challenge. How can institutions move beyond surface-level youth engagement to foster meaningful, intergenerational collaboration?

Drawing on Avodah’s 28 years of experience with young people, this session explores practical approaches to engaging Gen Z as partners in Jewish social responsibility and leadership development. We will examine common barriers to cross-generational work, reflect on real-world scenarios from Jewish communal settings, and identify strategies that support shared ownership, accountability, and long-term sustainability across generations.

Take it a step further

A Gen Z session often surfaces a hard truth: young people are not asking to be “engaged.” They are asking to be taken seriously. A workshop can unpack generational shifts around leadership expectations, boundaries, mental health literacy, political fluency, and mistrust of institutions, but organizations frequently need deeper support to translate those insights into structural change.

Post-session coaching and consulting helps Jewish organizations move from surface-level youth programming to meaningful intergenerational partnership.
