AVODAH Overview
AVODAH develops and engages a network of Jewish leaders working within the Jewish community and beyond to promote social justice and fight domestic poverty.  We achieve this through our many programmatic offerings including the Jewish Service Corps, the AVODAH Fellowship, our alumni network, and our community education and engagement work.

Position Overview
The Program and Development Associate assists in the planning, implementation and oversight of the educational, work-related, housing, and community-building aspects of AVODAH’s year-long program in their site, as well as the site’s alumni work.  In addition, the Associate assists with the administrative and logistical aspects of the development, communications and community engagement efforts conducted by AVODAH’s local site staff.   We are looking for a confident self-starter who excels at managing logistics and competing priorities, building strategic relationships with local organizations and supporters, and mentoring young adults in their early 20s.  The Program and Development Associate is an integral member of the local AVODAH office. The Program and Development Associate reports to the AVODAH City Director and serves as part of a dynamic national team to develop and implement the year-long program, alumni program, and development and community engagement efforts.

Year-Long Corps Member Program - The Program and Development Associate, supervised by the local Director, will implement various logistical and programmatic aspects of the national year-long service corps program for the corps members

Responsibilities to include:

  • In conjunction with the Director, plan, implement and/or facilitate the educational, mentorship and training aspects of year-long program including orientation, weekly sessions, retreats, and special programs - including logistical needs and liaising with speakers and trainers.

  • Assist the Director in the processes of selecting and matching placement agencies and corps members with one another, maintaining necessary files and stewarding these relationships throughout the year.

  • Coordinate, manage and maintain relevant applications and records for corps member participation in AmeriCorps.

  • Oversee all aspects of AVODAH’s residential properties including liaising with property owners, ensuring proper maintenance and turning over houses between cohorts.

Community Engagement
- The Program and Development Associate will provide programmatic and logistical support to the site’s work to involve the broad spectrum of AVODAH’s stakeholders - including corps members, alumni, donors, partners and others - in programming, leadership opportunities and events designed to further their knowledge of and/or involvement in anti-poverty work.

Responsibilities to include:

  • Provide logistical and programmatic support to implementation of alumni programming in the site, as needed, as well as other community engagement events and opportunities.  

Development - The Program and Development Associate, will support the Director’s work with the  Advisory Council, local board members and staff to develop and implement a development plan to maintain and increase the funds raised by the site.  

Responsibilities to include:

  • Manage details of the annual Partners in Justice event, in conjunction with any event planner and Director, as well as managing details of and providing logistical support for all other donor and/or community engagement events.  

  • Complete administrative work associated with the Advisory Council, including but not limited to meeting scheduling, preparation of written materials and correspondence with Advisory Council members.

  • Manage local planning of potential national major donor/stakeholder visit to New Orleans.

  • Conduct preliminary research on prospective corporate, foundation and individual donors and maintain foundation, corporation and individual donor files while continually updating, correcting and maintaining database records.

  • Serve as a second staff person available to attend meetings with stakeholders, donors and/or foundation representatives, as necessary.  Coordinate local elements of national fundraising campaigns.

  • Create monthly fundraising reports and other database reports as needed and reconcile monthly local revenue with national accounting records.

  • Assist with donor acknowledgement process as necessary.

  • Manages day-to-day operations of the site.

  • Facilitate technology needs and implementation of site.

  • All other duties as requested by the AVODAH Director.



  • Strong project management skills and high level of attention to detail

  • Impeccable interpersonal and relationship-building skills

  • Demonstrated experience with education, facilitation, and team-building

  • Experience with mentorship and leadership development for people in their early 20s

  • At least 2 years professional experience in program support and coordination; experience in informal and/or experiential education preferred

  • Familiarity with and respect for a wide range of expressions of Jewish life

  • Ability to handle a large volume of work, prioritize and multi-task

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Established connections to local activists and Jewish leaders preferred but not required

  • Proficiency in Google Documents, Excel and content management/ donor database programs

  • Ability to work regular evenings and occasional weekends a must.
